Last Gaspe celebrates its 25th Anniversary with a New England-style contra dance. Steve Pike calls the dances and provides instruction. Beginner lesson is at 7:30 PM and dancing starts at 8:00 PM.
The Last Gaspe, a New England-style contra dance band, plays Canadian, Irish and American fiddle music that swings. The band blends traditional forms with contemporary innovations to create an infectious, sparkling sound.
The group has played for dances, concerts and festivals all over the U.S. Highlights include performances at the New England Folk Festival in Natick, Massachusetts in 2004, the Door County Folk Festival from 2004 through 2010, Milwaukee Irish Fest each year since 1998, Houston (Texas) Area Traditional Dance Society in 2005, the Overture Center for the Arts Opening Festival, September 2004 and the Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting in 2008. Last Gaspe has also hosted a monthly dance series in Madison since 1987.
Band members include Kevin Clark, bass, John Kraniak, guitar, Amy McFarland, piano, and Maria Terres, fiddle.
